raining in paris

“let me hold your hand;
in the fast currents of life,
it’s you i want near.”

“i see you and i
slow dancing under the stars
in a silver dream.”

“oh, what will it take
to get you out of my mind?”

“erase the heart first.”

“i thought i loved you.
i think what hurts more is that
you felt that way, too.”

[ in case you aren’t aware, this type of measured poetry is called a haiku β€” five syllables on the first line, followed by seven then five. it is of Japanese origin, and it is one of my favorite ways to write. ]

[ p.s. the title is inspired by a song by The Maine, which i recommend. i think it rather matches this set. ]
